Umgezogen

Hallo liebe Freunde von WeAreFFM,

wie ihr sicher in der letzten Zeit bemerkt habt, war es sehr ruhig um WeAreFrankfurt/WeAreFFM. Ralph Lange hat im neuen Jahr sogar als erster Kurator 2013 gleich weiter und einen super Job gemacht.

Leider muss ich mich bei euch entschuldigen. Ich habe das Projekt WeAreFFM vernachlässigt und kaum Werbung für neue Kuratoren gemacht. Über die Weihnachtszeit habe ich dann auch die Daten auf einen eigenen Server gezogen, weg von wordpress.com, weil ich damit mehr Handlungsspielraum und Möglichkeiten gesehen habe. Leider jedoch verlief nicht alles so, wie ich mir das vorgestellt hatte, zeitlich und auch technisch. Erst jetzt habe ich bemerkt, dass das Bewerbungsformular auf der neuen Seite kaputt war oder auch andere Links nicht richtig funktionieren. Aber es wird besser werden.

Wir sind umgezogen – ab sofort sind weitere Blogposts und Websiteänderungen auf www.wearefrankfurt.com zu finden. Und ich bin weiter auf der Suche nach neuen Kuratoren/Kuratorinnen, die sich gerne weiter mit WeAreFFM präsentieren möchten.

Updates und frohe Weihnachtszeit

Hallo zusammen,

für diese und nächste Woche haben wir niemanden finden können, der/die über die Feiertage das Ruder übernimmt bei “We Are FFM” (We Are Frankfurt). Deshalb nehmen wir auch dies zum Anlass um über die Weihnachtsfeiertage bis zum Jahresanfang einige Updates und Änderungen an der Homepage durchzuführen, es gibt da so einige Ideen – lasst euch überraschen.

Vielen Dank für die bisherigen KuratorInnen – und für die kommenden, natürlich kann auch weiter online beworben werden. 🙂

Guuude Frankfurt

Hello, I am Jonas, and I’ll be your WeAreFFM curator for the week.

Frankfurt has been always been my Big City. Born in Bad Soden, grew up in the Taunus mountains, studied in Darmstadt, all the while visiting, shopping and working in Frankfurt. Four years ago, I finally started living here – now in Bockenheim. And I still like how in this city, I can pass through three or four different worlds in a five minute walk.

My desk is in the Bahnhofsviertel. I work as a graphic designer for two companies from Saarbrücken and Darmstadt, respectively. That’s why I wanna to do something visual for WeAreFFM: I’ll keep my eyes open for the icons and symbols I see on my way through town.

Hallo, ich bin Jonas, und ich werde diese Woche Ihr WeAreFFM-Kurator sein.

Frankfurt war mein ganzes Leben die Große Stadt. Ich bin in Bad Soden geboren, im Taunus groß geworden, in Darmstadt Student gewesen, aber die ganze Zeit zum Einkaufen, Arbeiten, Konzerte hören, Bilder sehen, Spazierengehen, Sport undundund in Frankfurt. Vor vier Jahren bin ich dann zum Wohnen hergekommen – mittlerweile in Bockenheim. Und immer noch mag ich, dass ich in Frankfurt in fünf Minuten durch drei oder vier unterschiedliche Welten komme.

Mein Schreibtisch steht im Bahnhofsviertel. Ich arbeite als Grafikdesigner für zwei Firmen aus Saarbrücken und Darmstadt. Deshalb möchte ich bei WeAreFFM etwas visuelles ausprobieren: Ich werde auf dem Weg durch die Stadt nach Icons und Symbolen suchen.

My name is Andreas Schepers (@AndreasSchepers). I have the pleasure and the honour to take over from Bülent.

I am a communications guy at an international organisation based in Darmstadt, so I commute between Frankfurt and Darmstadt.

I’ve been living in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen now for about 2 years. Before I moved here, I lived in Brussels, Essen, Saarbrücken, Paris and Darmstadt. To me the city still offers a lot of surprises. Actually, I learn new things about about the city every day. To share my view of Frankfurt dring on week with you all is an exciting idea.

Greetings Frankfurt!

My name is Bülent, and I love Frankfurt. This is a beautiful city with amazing architecture, world-class museums, excellent nightlife, and — lest we forget — a sparkling ribbon of water running smack bang through the middle of it. You could almost say that it’s like living in London, the place I’m from originally, but that would only be true if London were cleaner, safer, cheaper, and had a transport infrastructure that actually worked.

I’ve been living here for six months, and if the winds of good fortune continue to prevail, I’d like to stay here for a good while longer. I’m based in the Sachsenhausen area, south of the river, and I’ve been making good use of a) the museum district and b) the traditional Apfelwein taverns, but not c) doing them together. Being drunk in a museum is not as fun as it sounds.

You’ll frequently find me hanging around the Deutsches Filmmuseum (watching a classic Hollywood movie or three) or cycling along the River Main on my Brompton folding bike. I’m also taking intensive German language lessons at the Goethe Institut, three evenings a week, but I’m not confident enough to write in German just yet, so please indulge my publishing tweets in English for the coming week.

Currently I work as a Freelance Consultant in Digital Media for an international organisation based in Darmstadt. I’m also growing a moustache for Movember, the men’s health charity. Diese Woche mache ich mich ans Werk des Kuratierens. In anderen Kontexten bin ich mit dem Kuratieren gut vertraut. “Local based curation” oder auch “Rotation curation” probiere ich aber hier zum ersten Mal aus. Da ich bekennende Museumsliebhaberin bin, wird es sicherlich etwas kulturlastig. Gleichzeitig habe ich eine Menge persönliche Tipps in petto, schließlich komme ich aus dem Umland von Frankfurt und wohne seit 1998 in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen. HelloGuudeWie, my name is Nicole and I was born and raised in the Rhein-Main area (Mainz, Wiesbaden). Since the late eighties I am living in Frankfurt (most of the time). Working as a freelance multimedia-author (http://www.poasworld.de), I am interested in new ways of storytelling, digital concepts, biology, e-learning, visual recording, animation, programming…

Oder @photostroller: neue Kuratorin für eine Woche

HelloGuudeWie, mein Name ist Nicole und ich bin im Rhein-Main Gebiet groß geworden (Mainz, Wiesbaden). Seit den späten 80ern lebe ich den  größten Teil der Zeit in Frankfurt.

Ich arbeite freiberuflich als Multimedia-Autorin (http://www.poasworld.de) und interessiere mich daher sehr für die Zukunft des Geschichtenerzählens, digitale Konzepte, Biologie, E-Learning, Visual Recording, Programmierung, wissenschaftliche Animationen,…

Ich kuratiere als @photostroller, weil Fotografie mich durch meinen Alltag begleitet und mir ermöglicht das Leben zu erforschen und intensiver wahrzunehmen. Mehr dazu findet sich auf meinem Foto-Blog.

Gute Laune bekomme ich automatisch bei einer guten Tasse Kaffee, kombiniert mit einer interessanten Unterhaltung. Apropos: in meiner Kuratorinnen-Woche will ich die Möglichkeiten die das @weareffm-Projekt bietet, erforschen und hoffe, dass sich daraus eine interessante und gute Zeit für alle Mitmachenden ergibt. Auf spannende Interaktion – vielleicht bei einer guten Tasse Kaffee!

A New Curator!

Hello there! My name is Charlotte and I’ll be looking after the WeAreFFM twitter feed this week. I guess you’ll want to know a little about me…

I’ve just turned 26 last week (the German Reunification Day is my birthday!) and I work as a Japanese translator. I’ve been in Frankfurt just over a year and I really love it here. I take German classes and love the language but I’m nowhere near being able to tweet in it so my tweets will be in English – sorry!

One thing I don’t like about Frankfurt is people’s negativity towards it. Complaining that it doesn’t have enough cool places, or that the customs over here are awkward. I write a blog called Sherbet and Sparkles where I try and banish these kinds of things, and prove that Frankfurt is an awesome place to live in, and has loads of really amazing things to do.

I plan to tweet on a different theme each day, so please come and join in the conversation!

It’s Sunday night and time to say good-bye for me from @WeAreFFM.  Another week, another curator.

I really enjoyed doing this for a week. Somehow it revitalize my love to Frankfurt. I used the time on my daily drive to the office to think about what makes Frankfurt so special to me and how I could best share it. Then in between office chores I tried to sing sweet bird songs. I hope you approve with what I did this week. And if not, thanks for bearing with me.
Definitely most popular were my tweets in Frankforterisch. Thursday night was a blast. Thanks to all who participated in the show. Also a special thanks to those who come from or live in Offenbach. You know who you are.

I am a Frankfurter.

My name is Philip and I’m a Frankfurter, not a Wiener.
I’m curating @WeAreFfm the week of September 24th. Should you be interested in learning a bit more about me (and Frankfurt), here you go:

I was born in “Bornheim”, which is amusing when writing this in English. I grew up in Sachsenhausen, on the lovely Mühlberg to be precise. This officially makes me the first real Frankfurter to curate @WeAreFfm. I love “Grie Soß”, “Rippsche mit Kraut” (grilled please), and “Stöffsche”.  And I also love Shwarma, which I would define as another Sachenhausen traditional dish,  from paradise alley. I feel at home when I walk the streets of Sachsenhausen and pass by one of the old houses with their wet and slightly sour smell of humid sandstone cellars. And I love the sound of Frankforterisch, the local dialect which you hear less and less. My two sons were born in Frankfurt too. So you see, I’m trying my best to keep traditions going.

Does all this make me a really good choice to curate @WeAreFfm? I don’t think it necessarily does. Because it’s “We Are Frankfurt” for a reason. There are no real and wrong Frankfurters. Most people you will meet in Frankfurt are not from here. They are “Ei-geplackte”, they moved here from somewhere else. Nevertheless they are an integral part of Frankfurt. In fact Frankfurt’s inhabitants are from over 180 nations. This is what makes Frankfurt one of Germany’s most diverse cities. And this is also what I love about this little town.

Yes, little town. At night Frankfurt is home to only 700,000 people. During the day the city easily swells up to over 2 million. Frankfurt has Germany’s highest workplace density and most commuters. There are 75,000 jobs at Frankfurt Airport alone, slightly more than jobs at the banks. Still, Frankfurt is also known as Bankfurt or Mainhattan because of a few tall bank buildings. They give fodder for awesome photography and I do love the sight as well.

What else do I love about my hometown? It’s the 20 minutes city. You can often get across town in 20 minutes. You can also leave Frankfurt in 20 minutes and enjoy the green country side. Make it 4 hours and thanks to the airport and train connections you can be anywhere in Europe. Which means I do love to get out of town, but I also love to come back home.

So why am I doing @WeAreFfm this week? Because I’m awfully proud to be a Frankfurter and I’m a technophile as well. I think it is awesome how technology connects people. It’s an honor for me to do this. I hope you will enjoy my tweets and re-tweets this week. I hope you will connect.
